This semester, I feel like I improved a lot on my writing. At the start, I was not very confident and I did not really know how to organize my ideas well. Now I understand writing better and I can explain my thoughts in a clearer way. I also feel like I think more before I write, which helps me stay on topic. Before, I would sometimes just start writing without a plan, but now I try to take my time and understand what I want to say first. This has helped me become more focused and more clear in my writing.
One thing I learned is how to understand and write in different types of assignments.Doing projects like the Cultural Profile, Subculture Essay, and Culture Experiment really helped. Each one was different and had its own purpose. For example, in my Culture Experiment about Islamic prayer, I had to explain something personal but also make it clear for other people who might not know about it. That helped me understand how writing changes depending on who you are writing for. I learned how to adjust my tone and give better explanations depending on the topic. I also learned that some assignments need more detail and explanation, while others need more personal reflection. This helped me become more flexible as a writer.
Another thing I noticed is that I got better at adding examples to support my ideas. Before, I would just say what I think, but I would not always explain it well. Now I try to give examples so the reader can understand me better. For example, in my essays, I used my own experiences and also ideas from class to support what I was saying. This made my writing stronger and more interesting to read. I also learned that adding details helps the reader connect more with the topic.
Another thing I improved is my writing process. Before this class, I usually wrote one sentence and didn’t really go back to fix it much. Now I understand that writing takes time. I learned to plan my ideas first, write a draft, and then go back and improve it. When I got feedback, I used it to fix mistakes and make my writing easier to read. I also learned to organize my paragraphs better so my ideas make more sense. Now, each paragraph has one main idea, and I try to support it with details.
I also learned that feedback is very important. At first, I did not always pay attention to feedback, but now I see that it helps me improve. When my teacher gave comments, I looked at them and tried to understand what I did wrong. Then I fixed those mistakes in my next draft. This helped me become a better writer over time. I also learned from my classmates when we shared ideas in class.
Another improvement I made is being more patient with my writing. Before, I just wanted to finish quickly, but now I understand that good writing takes time. I try to reread my work and make changes before I submit it. This helps me catch mistakes and make my writing better. I also try to make my sentences clearer so they are easier to understand.
I think I grew a lot this semester. I feel more comfortable writing now and I can explain my ideas better than before. I still need to work on grammar and making my sentences stronger, but I am improving. Sometimes I still make small mistakes, but I am more aware of them now. I also feel more confident sharing my writing with others, which is something I was not comfortable with before.
This class helped me become more confident and better at writing in general. I learned that writing is a process and not something you just do one time. You have to think, write, revise, and improve. I will take these skills with me to my future classes.I am proud of my progress and I know I can keep getting better if I continue to practice. Thank you professor.
